About the Speakers

Leisl Bryant

Ph.D., ABPP

Leisl Bryant, Ph.D., ABPP is a licensed New Hampshire and Massachusetts-based clinical and forensic psychologist, with board certification in Forensic Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology. Working in both criminal and civil arenas, Dr. Bryant has maintained a private practice in clinical and forensic psychology for nearly two decades and has provided psychological services in a variety of forensic and therapeutic settings. Dr. Bryant brings extensive experience in forensic, clinical, and ethical consultation, academic instruction, and professional presentation to her role on the risk management team.

Objectives:

  • Describe basic principles of ethics and risk management, as applied to several specific clinical situations that arise in professional practice
  • List at least three areas of the ethics code relevant to expanding one’s psychological practice into new directions
  • Describe potential risks psychologists face when growing their business in new areas
  • Summarize at least three risk management strategies that can assist in mitigating risk
  • Explain the current state of legality regarding this model of treatment; identify areas of unique risk when practicing PAT; and delineate at least five specific strategies for ethically managing those risks
  • Define psychedelic assisted therapy (PAT)
  • Differentiate between legal and illegal interjurisdictional telepsychology (IJTP) practice and explain multiple avenues for legal practice
  • Define three benefits and three risks of using artificial intelligence in psychological practice
  • Identify three aspects of HIPAA that apply to privacy and security in emerging technology
  • Summarize four steps in preparing for transitions in professional practice, and three action steps when these changes occur
  • Delineate at least four risk management strategies for IJTP, both within and outside of PSYPACT, including the management of patients in crisis across jurisdictions

Josh Spitalnick

PhD

Dr. Josh Spitalnick is a Licensed Psychologist, Board Certified in Behavioral & Cognitive Psychology. He is CEO/Founder of Anxiety Specialists of Atlanta, a specialized OCD and anxiety treatment center recognized as a Center of Excellence for over a decade, also serving as Institutional Affiliate of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). With over 25 anxiety specialists treating children, teens, adults, caregivers and families, his clinic offers IOPs, support and treatment groups, and telehealth in over 40 states. Dr. Spitalnick trains clinicians in evidence-based interventions and serves on faculty for the Behavior Therapy Training Institute for the IOCDF. Dr. Spitalnick is co-author of the book “The Complete Guide to Overcoming Health Anxiety,” the parenting guide “Raising Resilience: 25 Tips for Parenting Your Child with Anxiety or OCD,” and has co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and treatment manuals

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify and apply diagnostic criteria for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) while also being able to differentiate OCD from other related clinical presentations
  • Participants will be able to categorize core OCD symptom domains (i.e., triggers, obsessions, and compulsions) for the many obsessional subtypes, with an emphasis on the functional role of rituals and compulsions
  • Participants will be able to identify and describe evidence-based assessment and treatment strategies for OCD, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Participants will be able to develop an individualized, evidence-based treatment plan for OCD, utilizing functional analysis (triggers, obsessions, compulsions, feared outcomes)

Vaile Wright

PhD

Vaile Wright, PhD is the Senior Director for the Office of Health Care Innovation at the American Psychological Association. She is a licensed psychologist and researcher focusing on developing strategies to leverage technology and data to address issues within health care including increasing access, measuring care, improving efficiencies and optimizing treatment delivery at both the individual and systems level. She has maintained an active line of research with peer-reviewed articles in multiple journals and serves as a media spokesperson for APA.

Objectives:

  • Summarize how digital tools & AI can expand access and health equity to marginalized populations.
  • List the regulatory and reimbursement barriers to full health care implementation of AI digital tools.
